Worst Films of 2016

While 2016 had some pretty stellar films, every year, there will always be those duds and misfires of the year. This list will count down the most horrible films that I've personally witnessed this year. Fortunately enough for me, I didn't see that many films that I consider terrible to the point I would list 10 films. Instead, I'll just list 8 films

#8. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice
Batman V Superman wasn't that bad of a film that'd give it a 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the film definitely isn't what DC fans, like myself, deserve. The plot makes little sense and is uncompelling. The characters are poorly written and have little depth to them to give them any reason for you to care about them. This film just feels like a product instead of a film. The tension between Batman and Superman also doesn't make any sense. I also put this in my Most Disappointing Films of 2016.

#7. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back should seriously be titled Jack Reacher: Never Go Back To The Theater. Another film that is in my list of Most Disappointing Films of 2016, the main reason why this film fails is because there's nothing good about it. It lacks any of the things that made the first one good, which is some memorable action sequences with an interesting directorial style. This film literally has no style. It has nothing special going for it. Not all of the film is bad, but the things that the film does that is not bad is just mediocre at best. The performance from Tom Cruise feels unusually half-baked. There is absolutely no energy coming from this film, unlike the first one. I'd strongly recommend the first Jack Reacher over this one.

#6. Ride Along 2
Ride Along 2 is another unfunny comedy with Kevin Hart playing the same character he always plays in his movies. Don't get me wrong, Kevin Hart can be funny and I've seen some of his work. But, I don't think he's funny in this movie other than in a couple of scenes.

#5. Suicide Squad
Another DC film this year that missed the mark and that was also on my Most Disappointing Films of 2016. I've already explained there why this movie fails. If you want the short version of what I said, basically, everything in this film is a giant mess. The plot sucks. The villain sucks. The editing sucks. Most of the cast give terrible performances. The movie is just terribly written and it's such a shame that a film that had so much potential go to waste like this. It'a arguably worse than Batman V Superman. I just hope DC gets it right with Wonder Woman.

#4. Warcraft
Warcraft is arguably the best video game movie ever made, but it's still pretty terrible. Even though that the film does have decent visuals at moments, the plot is very generic and the characters in this movie are poorly-written. The writing is very weak and forgettable.

#3. The Legend of Tarzan
The Legend of Tarzan is one boring, monotonous film to watch. It's so boring and forgettable. It's the equivalent of reviewing a wall. There's almost nothing to say about it other than it's boring and dull because I forgot literally 90% of the film. The plot is dull. Characters are unlikeable because they're dull. The way the film looks is dull. Everything in the film is devoid of anything special except for Samuel L. Jackson, but even his delivery didn't save this movie. If you want to watch a movie that'll make you fall asleep, then The Legend of Tarzan is for you.

#2. Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed  is so awful. Not only is it so boring and does everything that I've been criticizing the other films for doing like poorly written story and characters, the cinematography is so ugly which is unussual for Justin Kurzel. I thought his visual style in Macbeth looked good and I thought it would work well in Assassin's Creed, but it doesn't. The only maybe good thing about this film is the action sequences when the character is in the past, but it's so few and far between and it's undercut when the action is so poorly shot. A lot of the scenes are hilariously bad. All of the performances from the actors are so pale and dull. Pretty much everything about this film is bad. At least the films above in this list have something good about it or they have mediocre things about it, but this film literally has nothing good about it or anything I'd say that's positive. I'd probably say that Michael Fassbender is the only actor that looks like he's trying to give a good performance, but it's undercut when the film is so bad that it makes Michael Fassbender look like he's giving a bad performance even though he's trying because the film is that badly directed. I guess the curse of terrible video game films will continue until something finally breaks that curse. While Assassin's Creed is a very bad movie, it doesn't come close to what's about to come next.

#1. Gods of Egypt
Gods of Egypt is the first film that I've given an F rating and the only one so far. What a load of piss. This movie sucks guys. I don't know where to start. First of all, the visual effects are god awful. It looks like a video game movie and it's not even based off of a video game. That's how bad it is. The CGI is so boisterously in-your-face, it gets on your nerves. The CGI is so god awful, it literally looks worse than the Star Wars prequels. Not even talking about the over-the-top CGI, the action is some of the worse I've ever seen. It's somehow even worse than Assassin's Creed action sequences. At least Ass Creed, I mean, Assassin's Creed has some cool moments. Here, there's nothing cool in anything in the movie. There's nothing this film does right. All of the characters are white in Egypt. The director is terrible and the way he responded to critical backlash made it even worse. Seriously, this film is an absolute abomination. At least the film can be enjoyed by just laughing at how bad it is or watching it while drunk with your friends. That's the only way to enjoy this film.
