Reviews of Movies that I Haven't Reviewed Yet This Year Because I'm Too Lazy But Now I Am (I Can't Think of An Appropriate Name)...Review

This isn't going to be the typical kind of review that I do. This will be a series of very brief, mini-reviews on films that I've seen this year but didn't review. Consider this an apology letter for my near year-long hiatus. These reviews will lack detail for some movies because I don't remember these films as much as I did when I first saw them and I'll just include just the conclusion part and score that I do in my reviews.

Ride Along 2
Although there are some moments that made me crack a laugh, the film is yet another generic comedy with Kevin Hart playing the same character he always plays in his movies. There's nothing special in this movie at all and nothing memorable about is here, which is why this conclusion is so short.

Score: D

Kung Fu Panda 3
It lacks the same depth in its storytelling and characters, unlike the first two, but the film has good animation and vibrant colors. This third installment in the Kung Fu Panda series may not be as good as the first two, but it's still a solid feature that will entice kids and the entire family.

Score: C+
Hail, Caesar!
As a colorful and comedic satire of 1950's hollywood, this film entertains and people looking for a solid comedy will be satisfied. The writing and some of the plot could have been improved, but I think this movie fares very well for what it is and brings solid performances.

Score: B
Deadpool
This is the perfect apology letter for the disaster that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Deadpool was an awesome movie that displays action that is seamlessly blended with the comedy. This movie will appease both Deadpool fans and people who are unfamiliar with the character. Even though the plot is very generic, it's immediately undercut when you realize that this parody of various superhero tropes and funny 4-wall breaks makes it a blast to see.

Score: B+
Zootopia
This movie is amazing guys. It's everything that I want in an animated movie. I'm sick and tired of the mindset in society that animation is for kids, therefore, they shouldn't have deep storytelling with good characters. This film does all of those things. It has a deep enough story that adults/teenagers can enjoy, but at the same time, kids can enjoy the film. It has it all for everyone. To top it all off, it delivers a good and timely message that resonates with the real world. This film and the themes it covers are surprisingly mature. The characters are so well-written, I would like to see them again and again. This is arguably one of Disney's best animated films and rivals that with Pixar.

Score: A+
Gods of Egypt
Oh my god, where to start with this movie? Even if we don't talk about the fact that everyone in Egypt is white (except for one guy) IN EGYPT, everything in this movie is terrible guys. The CGI is awful. Seriously, this movie cost 140 million dollars to make, yet the CGI is so bad, it looks like the Star Wars prequels, sometimes even worse than that. The BFG cost the same amount and looks 20x better. The characters are uninteresting. The plot is unengaging. The acting is terrible. There's nothing good about this movie and it's laughable they even tried to make a sequel. What's even worse is that the director pans the critics because he made a terrible movie. This movie sucks. It doesn't even deserve my professionalism. The movie is unintentionally hilarious, which is the only value it has. It's one of those movies that is so bad it's good.

Score: F
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is an okay movie. It does fail in some of its aspects that it tried to exceed in but it does have some positives. Ben Affleck played a good Batman when it comes to combat. Also, the film had some cool ideas when it came to being a political thriller, but it doesn't flesh itself out as much as I wanted to. Some of the action scenes were a bit cool. However, the negatives outweigh the positives a bit. The villain sucks. Jesse Eisenberg played a somewhat terrible performance. The plot is really dumb. Batman may look cool in his fight scenes, but the way he's written when it comes to his intelligence and detective skills fails because the movie makes him look dumb. The story is weak. It feels less like a movie and more like a trailer for upcoming DC movies.

Score: C-

Captain America: Civil War
Captain America: Civil War is one of Marvel's best movies. The action is very well shot and directed. The Russo Brothers are masters when it comes to directing action. The movie is a very fun film. The action is very tense. The plot is very engaging and the characters are compelling as you understand their roles in the plot. Henry Jackman delivers yet again another good soundtrack. It's arguably better than Winter Soldier. The biggest negative is that the villain is not very compelling as the other characters. But, what makes it one of the best Marvel movies is because it's one of the most fun Marvel movies.

Score: B+
 The Jungle Book
The Jungle Book packs itself with mindblowingly computer-generated visuals. This is a prime example of how to incorporate CGI and blend it with live-action when most other movies fail. The story and the characters are solid.

Score: B+
 X-Men: Apocalypse
X-Men: Apocalypse is a competent superhero movie, but it lacks the same quality from Days of Future Past. The characters are a bit lame except for Magneto. Apocalypse lacks intimidation because when he walks around doing stuff, he looks ridiculous. Michael Fassbender was the highlight performance in the film. The whole movie is just one giant "meh".

Score: C
 Warcraft
Warcraft is the best video-game-based movie ever made, but it still sucks. The characters are uninteresting. The plot and villain are generic. The story sucks dude. However, the some of the visuals are cool and they did try to make a competent video game movie, and they were close. But, I'm afraid to say that this isn't the video game movie gamers are looking for.

Score: D+
 Finding Dory
Finding Dory isn't as good and the writing isn't as strong as its predecessor, but it's still a solid animated film. It will deliver some emotional moments and is a good watch with kids.

Score: B-
 The Legend of Tarzan
This movie is one giant bore fest. Seriously, I can't remember anything about this film other than the fact that it's boring except for a couple of scenes. The special effects are terrible. The plot and characters are boring and uninteresting, except for Samuel L Jackson's character. It's not the worst film to warrant an F rating, but it's very boring to watch.

Score: D
 The BFG
The BFG is a solid film about accepting the abnormal. This movie has amazing visuals and motion capture work. The film has very good child acting from Ruby Barnhill playing Sophie. The first 2 acts were very solid, but I feel the last half of the film start to drag and lose its weight.

Score: B-
 Star Trek Beyond
Star Trek Beyond offers a boisterously fun and action packed sequel to the revived Star Trek series. It's not as good as the first one, but I think it's a tad better than the second one. It fares well as an action film and I enjoyed the addition to the character, Jaylah.

Score: B
 Jason Bourne
Jason Bourne is a disappointing addition to the Bourne series. It's a ton better than The Bournce Legacy, but it's still not as good as the previous ones before with Matt Damon. The plot is not as tense and engaging. However, the action is well-shot and that will probably be enough to satisfy the audience.

Score: C
 Suicide Squad
Suicide Squad is supposed to be the film that puts the DCEU back on track with its mixed start. However, I'm sad to say that the film still fails. Most of the characters suck except for Harley Quinn and Deadshot, but even then, character composition is weak. The story sucks. Villains suck. Plot is a giant mess. It sucks. So does the editing in the film. The soundtrack sucks. In fact, there is no soundtrack; they just insensibly throw in random songs that don't fit with the tone of the film. The positives of the film is that the film made me laugh at how hard DC tried to make a good film, but it turned out to be bad.

Score: D
 Kubo and the Two Strings
Kubo and the Two Strings is Laika's best film arguably. This is one of the best stop motion animation I've ever seen. How the stop motion is utilized is so smooth and it's so good, you forget that it's stop motion. Other than how beautiful the animation looks, the characters are interesting and the film delivers a fun experience for both kids and adults. It's more mature than most animated films. If you're a fan of Laika animation and/or stop-motion animation, this is definitely something you should see.

Score: A
 The Magnificent Seven
The Magnificent Seven is not a good movie, but it's one of those movies I would watch when it's on cable. No seriously, that's the perfect way to describe this movie. It isn't bad. It isn't good. It's just perfectly fine with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt in it. Some of the chemistry between the characters is decent even though the characters were pretty generic. Everything else is just okay.

Score: C+
 The Accountant
The Accountant is a solid thriller with good action scenes and tense moments. It reminds me of John Wick. This is one of Ben Affleck's best performances in a movie like this. The film is very tense but I feel that the ending was a bit weak. This is a well-directed and intense action thriller that I would recommend for you to see.

Score: B-
 Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
This movie doesn't have the same flavor it had with its original. At least with the first Jack Reacher, there was an interesting style to it with the way the action was shot and there were more memorable action scenes even though the whole thing felt a little generic. The sequel here lacks any of those qualities that made the original good. So, basically, it's just one big bland nothing. The action is not tense at all. There're no memorable action scenes, even though the action is competently shot. There's nothing special to this movie and it's boring. The characters are not interesting. Even Jack Reacher is not that interesting, but he was so interesting in the first one. This movie is a failure dude.

Score: D+
 Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange is the standard Marvel superhero origin story, but it's still a solid film that's enjoyable. The biggest positive of the film is its visuals. This is the most visually impressive Marvel film to date. Benedict Cumberbatch is a near-perfect portrayal of Doctor Strange. He was very good in the film. However, it suffers the same problem that is prevalent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The villain is weak yet again.

Score: B
 Hacksaw Ridge
Hacksaw Ridge is an amazingly directed biography film about a war hero a lot of people never knew about. I never knew about Desmond Doss and I'm glad I did. This movie is amazingly well-shot and the way they wrote Desmond's character is good. This is the best performance I've seen from Andrew Garfield. It's depictions of the horrors of war and its philosophy of staying true to your own convictions and what you believe in is amazing. It delivers a good and memorable message. The way this film paces is PERFECT. Not once did I feel that the film dragged or rushed when developing and introducing its characters or when advancing the plot.

Score: A
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is surprisingly a good film. Although this film looks like an unnecessary movie based in the Harry Potter universe, capitalizing off the success of the franchise, this film actually brings quality to its own merits. The characters are amazingly well-written and memorable. It doesn't rely on the audience's knowledge of the original Harry Potter films. What I love about Fantastic Beasts so much is that the film doesn't spend so much time setting up a franchise. Instead, it spends more of that time developing itself as a film and developing its narrative. By itself, it's a good film and is accessible to both fans and non-fans alike.

Score: A-
