Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 (2017) Review

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is written and directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillian, and Kurt Russell.

Plot
Set during a few months after the first film, the Guardians of the Galaxy are tasked with protecting powerful batteries for the Sovereign. Then, after the mission is complete, more about Peter Quill's lineage is revealed.

Positives
The strongest part of the film is its fun factor. This film delivers some great jokes in the dialogue while also maintaining some intensity in its action.

The thing I really like what James Gunn has done with this film is that he took the main characters that we know already like Peter Quill, Gamora, Nebula, and Yondu and composed them to a stronger level, especially Yondu's character. He takes these characters and you learn more about their histories and their ties with the other characters and they're really interesting. Youdu explains why he took Peter and kept him from his father. I won't go into spoilers but his explanation of him doing those things really strengthened the character.

The CGI and visuals are solid as usual from Marvel.

The cast is also great in this movie. You can tell that they had fun in this movie and I had fun too. This movie was blast.

Negatives
The composition of the antagonist is weak as usual from a MCU movie. Also, his "evil plan" I found to be really stupid and doesn't make sense even more than from your standard MCU villain. And MCU villains usually have stupid and ridiculous plans.

The introduction of the new characters is weaker than what I would have wanted, especially Mantis' character. I wanted to know more about her character but the movie didn't go much in depth with her.

Conclusion
This is a very fun movie. I was really entertained and the film did provide some substance about family that I enjoyed. It's not a great film.

Score: B
