Shaun The Sheep Movie (2015) Review

Shaun the Sheep Movie is an animated comedy film produced by Aardman Animations based on the TV series.

The Plot

Shaun, a mischievous sheep, and his flock of other sheep are tired of the same boring life everyday living in the farm, and they develop a plan to have a day off to chill and have fun. But, the plan backfires when the sheep accidentally send the farmer to The Big City (yes, that's the actual name), making the farmer suffer memory loss. Now, Shaun and the other sheep....and the dog must find their owner and bring him back to the farm.

Thoughts

Actually, this movie was really surprising. Probably this movie was more surprising than Jack Reacher. I really liked this movie and I'm glad that I searched it on Rotten Tomatoes. It isn't the best movie of 2015 or of all time, but it is a really decent movie and I had a lot of fun watching it.

Pros

1. This movie was really funny. I loved its humor. It was what made this movie very good in my opinion. I prefer its kind of humor and I praise the animation studio for taking this route because, nowadays, I see movies like Shaun the Sheep, that appeal to a younger audience, always like to put immature and unfunny jokes like fart noises and randomness. I'm no comedian but I prefer to have comedy that anyone (adults and kids) can laugh over and that's really clever over dumb, random humor. And this movie has clever humor. I can see adults and kids alike laughing at this movie.

2. This movie is really simple. It proves that a movie doesn't need to be complex in order to be good. The characters have simple personalities. The plot is simple. Everything is simple, and I like that. Now, just because it's simple doesn't mean it's stupid....okay, it really is sort of stupid, but that doesn't mean it is a bad movie.

Complexity =/= Good Movie

Cons

1. I was annoyed at the fact that the characters don't speak English. The characters (except the sheep) speak in some gibberish language like the minions in Despicable Me and it's kind of annoying. It doesn't ruin the movie at all and I know that it's a cartoon, but it is bothersome and you do wonder why the director can't make them speak properly.

Conclusion

Overall, this movie was a really decent movie in my opinion. Definitely a surprise film. I never thought something like this would make me laugh, but it did. I looked a Rotten Tomatoes and people gave it a 99%. I don't think it deserves a 99% rating, but it does deserve more recognition. It kind of saddens me that films like Fantastic Four and Vacations, which are ALL TERRIBLE FILMS, get tens of millions of dollars of revenue in the box office, but Shaun the Sheep is barely getting to 3 millions when Shaun is much better and FUNNIER than both of those films

My recommendation is go see this film over Fantastic Four and Vacation. If you've already seen the good movies like Ant-Man and Mission Impossible and you think there's nothing else to see, go see Shaun the Sheep. Yes, I know it's a kids movie, but just because it's a movie for kids, doesn't mean it isn't good. Come on now. Haven't we learned from Pixar? Haven't we learned from movies like Kung Fu Panda, and How To Train Your Dragon?

This movie is a good comedy to see with the family, and I can recommend this movie for everyone to see, but don't expect anything else other than comedy in this movie. If you get over the fact that the characters speak gibberish and just look at the comedy, the movie does itself quite well.

Score: 8/10
