Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) Review

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the 2015 sequel to Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. It is an American Epic Space Opera film that is set approximately 30 years after Episode VI.

The Plot
Approximately 30 years after Episode VI with the defeat of the Galactic Empire, we are introduced to a new villain, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), over the command of the First Order. Finn, a defected Stormtrooper, crashs onto a desert planet, and escapes with Rey, a scavenger who's accompanied by a bot who has a map that could lead to the whereabouts to Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi Knight who mysteriously disappeared.

Thoughts
This movie is really good. This movie will, no doubt, please Star Wars fans. It is a worthy sequel to the original trilogy. It's pretty obvious that the movie is setting up a new trilogy. Well, we already know that they're going to make an Episode 8 and 9 afterwards. The Force Awakens is a fun epic film to watch and stays true to the originals. The film makes you want more and I'm really excited for the Episode 8 and 9. However, there are a couple of problems I had with the movie. A lot better than the prequels (at this point, anything is better than the prequels).

Pros

1. The action sequences are awesome. The lightsaber battle was awesome, but not the most memorable. The movie is a very fun movie, just as fun as Mission Impossible.

2. The visuals and cinematography are great. J.J nailed it with the movie's visuals. The sound/music is also good. I don't know if it was just me but I noticed that the sounds they used for The Force is better. You can actually hear its power.

3. The characters are awesome. Finn, Rey, and Kylo Ren are awesome new characters to the Star Wars universe, and I want to see more about their stories in the next movies. I'm seriously trying to not spoil here.

Cons

1. The villain is not as menacing as I hoped he would be. They kind of ruined him in my opinion. He looked so cool in the beginning and I was kind of disappointed in his character. I know his character will develop later on in the trilogy, but as of now, I'm not really fond of his character. I hope his character gets to improve and we know his resolve later.

2. I feel like the ending was not as good as I hoped either. I'm seriously trying not to spoil, but I feel like the movie ends kind of unnaturally, especially the final fight in the end. I think that final fight was kind of disappointing in my opinion. But I don't think that's even an issue.

Conclusion

The cons are minor and they can be fixed in the later movies. I'm not sure about the original trilogy, but I bet that the first Star Wars movie did the exact same thing - they made it very open for sequels to build up a universe in a trilogy. They kept some things as secrets to set up a really big reveal later in the trilogy, which is probably what they're doing. The first one was a little bit obscure, the ending was really open-ended, didn't really end in a big way. I bet they're going to make some reveal or something later. They'll more than likely end in a big bang in Episode 9. Regardless, I loved this movie. I don't think it's like a 95% or something on Rotten Tomatoes, but it's a great movie. I can't wait for Episode 8 to come out. Episode 7 is a very warm homecoming to the franchise and it returns it to what made the original Star Wars great in my opinion.

Score: 8.7/10
